RE: IBEW Local #1 actions taken under directives from the Mayor of The City of St. Louis. (Download this letter)

Brothers and Sisters of the IBEW Local #1,

As everyone knows, we are going through unprecedented times with the Coronavirus pandemic. Our main concern is the health and well-being of our members and their families. Please use common sense and stay home if you are not feeling well.

Due to the directive from the Mayor, IBEW Local #1 will not be able to hold events of 50 people or larger for the next 8 weeks. All Union meetings and other functions in that time period will be cancelled. These cancellations will affect the first Union meeting in May which would have been nominations. After receiving instructions from the International Office, we will schedule nominations the first available Friday outside the 8-week period. The nominations will be held at the May 15th, 2020 Union meeting at 5850 Elizabeth Ave., commencing at 6pm. The election will be held Saturday, June 6th, 2020, 6am-6pm.

Under directives from the Mayor of the City of St. Louis, the Union has also taken these steps:
The Union Hall will be closed for walk-in business effective March 18th, 2020. The Business Manager’s office and Financial office will be staffed, and Business Representatives will be in the office. Please do not hesitate to call. Business Representatives will not be stopping by jobsites unless called out for a problem. We hope to minimize any disruption during this period but also will make sure your needs are met.

Members scheduled for a retirement projection or a retirement please call the Financial office.

Union Dues for members will need to be mailed or paid over the phone.

Those working on permit will need to pay over the phone. Once paid, have the Steward contact the Business Representative. Stewards please make sure the permits are checked on the due date.

If members are working under a contract using the hiring hall and they are laid-off or quit, please call the Union Hall and we will take care of registration. You will not need to come down to register during the 8-week period.

Contractors can still call for manpower. We have adjusted the process so you will not have to come to the hall during this 8-week period to pick up your referral.
The Training Center will be closed during this 8-week period. Day school apprentices will report to work five days a week.

We hope that this goes no further than May 13th. If it does, we will make the appropriate adjustments. Everyone please be careful and take proper precautions to stay healthy.

All Members will be receiving this communication by US postal mail.

Those members working under NECA Contracts or contracts with IBEW H&W coverage and retirees make sure you check the post from Friday. That information was also sent by mail.

In Solidarity,
Frank D Jacobs
Business Manager
