ASSE Family Scholarship Fund

Brothers and Sisters,

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics over 4000 workers are killed on the job each year. That’s an average of over 12 per day. Many of these lost workers leave behind spouses and children struggling to make ends meet and unsure about their future.

The families who suffer these losses need support in many ways, but one of the most important is access to a good education. The American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE), through the ASSE Foundation, have created a Family Scholarship Fund to help these families meet this need.

The Family Scholarship Fund provides scholarships to the grieving families of fallen workers. Spouses and children of workers lost on the job qualify for this scholarship if they are U.S. citizens, enrolled as full time students seeking a degree, have a GPA of 2.5 or higher and can demonstrate a financial need.

To be considered you generally need to be nominated by an ASSE member. However, if you’re eligible but don’t know an ASSE member you can contact Brenda Kay Zylstra at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for consideration.

The Family Scholarship Fund is an excellent resource to help the families of our lost workers move forward. If you believe you or a family member qualifies or you would like to help support this fund with a donation you can find more information at their website:

Please spread the word about this resource for the families of lost workers and consider making a donation to the Family Scholarship fund if you can.

In Unity,
