Press release announcing the resolution:

ARNOLD Resolution designed to protect working families:

No. __________

RESOLUTION

A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE CITY OF ARNOLD’S SUPPORT FOR MISSOURI’S WORKING FAMILIES AND THE MIDDLE CLASS AND IN OPPOSITION TO POLICIES CONTRARY TO THEIR SUCCESS, INCLUDING “RIGHT TO WORK” AND/OR FREEDOM TO WORK” LEGISLATION

Whereas, numerous studies have demonstrated, and our own experience and common sense have confirmed, that central locations, good transportation infrastructure, infrastructure, a good skilled and stable workforce, the value and availability of business incentives, reasonable tax rates, high caliber public services, and low energy cost are the most important factors influencing business relocation and economic development; and

Whereas, these circumstances make it clear to the City Council that policies that undercut the success of working families and threaten the stability of the middle class do not result in enhanced economic development and, in fact, lead to long term erosion of economic vitality as well as degradation of the social fabric of the community; and

Whereas, so-called “right-to-work” law interfere with the successful labor-management partnership and dynamic bargaining process that has been so vital to the growth and success of the American middle class and has resulted in the most efficient, productive and stable workforce ever seen; and

Whereas, the Arnold City Council believes there is no reason why the Missouri General Assembly should overturn decades of successful labor-management practice, jeopardize the success and stability of working class families and the American middle class, ignore the will of the people, and pander to out-of-state corporate special interests by adopting so-called “right-to-work” polices that are demonstrably unsuccessful as an economic development tool and contrary to the public well-being;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARNOLD, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS:

That the Arnold City Council expresses a firm position in support of Missouri’s working families and middle class and urges opposition of the so-called “right-to-work” or “freedom to work” laws and calls on Missouri General Assembly to focus instead on creating jobs and improving Missouri’s economy for all Missourians.
