A message from IBEW Local 1 Financial Secretary James C. Douglas

Dear Brothers and Sisters of the IBEW,

The Financial Office is open Monday thru Friday from 7am-4:30pm. As with all the other Officers and Reps, my primary duty is to serve the membership.

The Financial Office is responsible for placing a Fraternal Death Notice in the St Louis Post Dispatch when we are notified of a Brother or Sister member’s passing. At that time we also assist the family in submitting the necessary forms for any benefits available with the International and/or Local One. Please call the Financial Office to report the death of a member.

Sick/Hospital Benefits may be available for “A” or “BA” members who are under Plan One of the Bylaws. The sick benefit is $20/day with a maximum of 80 days and the hospital benefit is $75/day with a maximum of 20 days. To be eligible for either benefit, the Bylaws stipulate that you have to have worked in Local One’s jurisdiction seven hundred (700) hours in each of two (2) of the four (4) years preceding the disability. There is a waiting period for both benefits (see Bylaws Article XII, sec 1). Please call the Financial Office to confirm eligibility and request a form.

Because of the time it takes to process an Early, Normal, or Disability Retirement pension, they are typically handled thru appointment only. If you are close to retiring, you can request a detailed projection to better assist you in your retirement decision. Please call the Financial Office approximately 4 months prior to retirement so that we have time to order the necessary forms and prevent any delays in your pension.

As always, feel free to call me at 314-647-5900 and I will do my best to be of assistance.
